On a Loss For Words

"Rather than being your thoughts and emotions, be the awareness behind them" ~Eckhart Tolle

I often find myself stuck when trying to earnestly confront how i'm feeling inside. It's like I can taste what it is i'm trying to get out, but lack the ability to describe anything in any actionable way.

I think it's a common issue to have a lack of words for something so complex as a feeling, or emotion. Some languages are better at explaining feelings, though some are likely objectively worse.

Perhaps the issue is that it doesn't need explained at all-- at least not in words. I'd like to think that in most cases, attention is enough, but sometimes awareness and acceptance fall short.

In those moments when you can't simply accept the feeling for what it is, what else can you do to circumnavigate the complexities of your inner-most self?

Self-expression and creative outlets can help describe the most complex feelings of all-- whether it be a song, poem, or a painting. The cruel irony is, in most cases only the creator themselves can truly translate it.

I find it strangely beautiful that, in sharing those imperfect expressions, we get closer to being understood-- not completely, but enough to remind us that we aren't the only ones trying to make sense of something this intangible.
